Fun reindeer fact: Reindeer are part of the deer family, called Cervidae, which includes deer, elk, moose, and wapiti. These long-legged, hoofed, and antlered holiday-centric creatures are called reindeer in Europe, and referred to as caribou in North America. They also don’t fly. But some reindeer, like Rudolph, have red noses. This is due to an excessive quantity of blood vessels in the nose that supply blood and regulate body temperature in extreme temperatures.
Twist apart the Oreo cookies
Twist the Oreo cookies to separate one of the cookies from the cream filling. Set the cookie part aside.
Make Oreo pops
For each pop, pick up the side of the cookie with the filling and place a lollipop stick on the filling. Set the cookie part of the Oreo back in place, pressing to cement the lollipop stick in the cookie. Set aside.
Melt the chocolate and Dip the Oreo pops
Place the candy melts in a microwave-safe bowl. Melt in the microwave in 30-second intervals, stirring after each, until the chocolate is melted and smooth. Holding the lollipop stick of each Oreo, dip the cookie into the melted chocolate to completely cover it. Let excess chocolate drip back into the bowl. Set the dipped cookies on parchment-lined baking sheets.
Turn the Oreo pops into reindeer
Decorate each of the dipped Oreo pops with two candy eyes, a red hot for the nose, and two pretzel pieces for ears. Refrigerate the reindeer Oreo pops until the chocolate is set. This will help ensure the decorations stick. Serve.
