Regardless, pumpkin-everything season is upon us, heralding the return of Starbucks highly anticipated PSL. And while we’ll be the first to admit we’ve been known to guzzle that beloved fall beverage with wild abandon, we wanted to shake things up a bit this year with a healthier pumpkin spice latte so you can enjoy your favorite fall drink guilt-free. MORE: Homemade pumpkin spice from freshly ground spices We probably don’t have to tell you that buying a PSL from the ‘Bux every morning (and every afternoon, no judgment) will put a dent in your bank account. Plus, there’s the fact that — although we do enjoy indulging — store-bought coffee beverages are chock-full of sugar and artificial ingredients.

But since the PSL is an integral part of us proclaiming the glory of fall to all who’ll listen, we had to find a suitable and less-sugary alternative.  What you’ll need to whip up this healthier DIY treat:

pumpkin puree maple syrup, or any other natural sugar/sugar substitute vanilla (powder or extract) pumpkin pie spice coffee milk (we used unsweetened oat, but any unsweetened milk will do) optional: whip cream, cinnamon sticks helpful: mocha pot, French press
